Are You Giving Yourself Enough Time?

Our world if full of so many conveniences. It is truly an amazing time to live. We realize there is something we want or need and we can get it nearly instantaneously. There is very little in this world that we cannot acquire within 48 hours. It’s truly incredible! It’s truly convenient! And it has truly made us just a tad lazy… or maybe more than a tad!

Now I am not trying to step on any toes. Really, I am preaching to myself here! We want everything and we want it now. It is not that we are trying to be selfish, we’ve just grown used to the convenience, and now we have a false impression of how life works. We think that all things should come to us as quickly as Amazon Prime.

But real life isn’t like that. There are things that just take time. There is no shortcut to getting there, you just have to take the time. Wisdom is one of those things. We can learn a lot of stuff in a short amount of time with the wonders of the world wide web, but all that knowledge doesn’t make wisdom. Wisdom takes time and experience. As my pastor says, “You can’t microwave wisdom, wisdom has to simmer.” I love that!

Health is the same way. We want to eat a salad and take a walk around the block and have all of our poor health choices erased. It doesn’t work that way however. It takes time. It takes making good choices every day to result in a healthy life. If we could get healthy by a quick route or by taking a pill we would all be healthy. Trust me, we would have figured that route out by now and everyone would have taken it! But there is no shortcut.

So take the time, slow down and make good choices, day in and day out. Your health is not going to change overnight. You might not even see the results in a week. But day after day, choice after choice, the changes will come. And one day you will look back and be amazed at the changes you’ve made. It is so worth it! Don’t give up!
